ONE WEEK BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS — JOIN US!Posted: June 21, 2011
Today marks the beginning of Bloombergville’s second week.
After moving three or four times, we’re now settled in at the corner of Broadway and Park Place, across the street from City Hall and half a block down from the City Council offices where budget discussions continue.
Though there’s been rain, occasional interference from the police, and our numbers have been thin at times, we’ve ended our first week stronger than we began. Energy is high. And slowly we’re growing. Every day new people come to visit and a few stay with us through the night. That’s what keeps Bloombergville going.
So, today’s our One Week Birthday and to celebrate we’ve lined up a few activities.
First, citizens of Bloombergville are taking to the road to bring the message of standing up against budget cuts to Union Square at noon. One of our street units will be showing up as human canvases asking people write (or paint or draw) what they really think of the Mayor’s budget plans.
Then at 6pm in Bloombergville it’s our One Week Birthday Party. A birthday cake will be presented as well as Greek pastries and spinach pie to honor the Greek workers and students currently fighting against their country’s austerity plans.
Finally, at 9pm (or a little later) it’s Bloombergville’s first Open Mic: One Word – Resistance. Come sing, tell stories, read your poetry, anything that relates to the word Resistance.
And, as always, there’s the General Assembly at 8pm
Join us. Everyone is Welcome.
12:00PM EXPRESS YOURSELF @ Union Square.
What do you think of our mayor and his budget? Write it, paint it, draw it, on our “human canvases.”
